USN CMDR. DICK MARCINKO TO SPEAK
SEAL Team SIX IN THE WAKE OF BIN LADEN

LAUGHLIN, NV--SEAL Team SIX Founder and first Commander, Dick Marcinko, USN Ret., will speak in the Edgewater E Center Veteran's Weekend, Saturday, November 12, at 7pm.  Cmdr. Marcinko will discuss the Team vs. terrorism in the wake of the successful raid on the Pakistani compound in May, 2011, in which Osama bin Laden was killed.  Cmdr. Marcinko will field questions following his speech.  Tickets to hear Marcinko are $10 and available on line at edgewater-casino.com, or at the Edgewater Casino Cage. The program starts at 7pm.

SEAL TEAM SIX CREATED
In April, 1980, Marcinko was a combat hardened Navy veteran and operations specialist working in the Pentagon when Operation Eagle Claw, the attempt to free 52 American hostages in Iran went wrong. In post analysis, the mission was defeated in part by a sandstorm which immobilized helicopters and a decision by commanders to abort the effort. Marcinko recalls the frustration he felt about the mission, saying that in addition to not bringing the hostages home, they experienced tremendous embarrassment.  "Embarrassment for all the troops on the ground. Embarrassment for all the planners; embarrassment for this nation, that this almighty, super rich country couldn't even come and get their own damn citizens out of Iran. With all that they had, to be taken out, really, by mother nature. It wasn't a bad guy there." 

Following Eagle Claw, Marcinko conceived of the SEAL Team SIX concept, an elite team of warriors with combat experience and skills, ideally multi-lingual and well acquainted with the fine points of ballistics. Marcinko commanded the counter-terrorist team for 3 years, from 1980 to 1983.

LAUGHLIN, NV--Multiple CMA & ACM award winning singer-songwriter Clint Black will perform in Edgewater's E Center Saturday, November 26th.  One of country music's brightest stars, Black has written, recorded and released more than 100 songs in his career.  His success can be attributed in part to his deep sense of country music history, and his humble gratitude in being an important part of it. The 1989 debut of Black's critically acclaimed fan favorite, the Triple Platinum Killin' Time, marked a shift in the industry, with a return to the more traditional sounds of the genre. CMT lists this album as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Country Music.  In addition to his extraordinary country music career, Black has acted in television and in films including Maverick with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, and Going Home with Jason Robards.
